What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key is a form of energy healing that was founded by Dr Mikao Usai from Japan in the early 20th century.
Reiki translates as the 'universal life energy', a term used to describe a natural healing system, that helps one's body energy to flow more freely and thereby support one's natural healing processes to heal on a physical, emotional/mental or spiritual level.
Reiki is not a religion. It is simply a tool that works with any religious path you have chosen for your life, and works equally well if you do not follow any traditional beliefs.
Reiki healing can be be used in conjunction with other complementary or conventional medical treatment.
What happens during a Reiki treatment?
Prior to the reiki treatment the practitioner will explain what the session will entail. At your first consultation appointment your practitioner will go through a brief confidential personal detail and well-being questionnaire with you. You will be asked to sign a consent form indicating that you are happy to proceed with treatment.
During a Reiki treatment you will lie down or sit comfortably, fully clothed. A treatment lasts between 30-60 minutes.
The practitioner will place their hands near or gently on certain energy points on the body. Healing is the ability to allow energy to channel through the practitioner to the person that you are healing. The pressure of touch is very light. Most people feel very relaxed and peaceful during treatment.
